By far, the most effective way to educate a member of Congress about the issues that
are burdening your business is to host a plant tour. Last fall, Weiss-Aug Company, Inc.,
of East Hanover, NJ, did just that by hosting Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen
(R-NJ-11) for a tour of its facility. Rep. Frelinghuysen toured the toolrooms, stamping division and molding division, and was very impressed with the cleanliness of the plant and the
level of sophistication and automation of many of the processes.

‘Made in New Jersey” day spotlights state’s goods-producing sectors

When manufacturing executives are asked to explain why they stay in New Jersey, often the high quality of their work force is the top reason. That is the story at Weiss-Aug of East Hanover, a maker of precision-engineered components for electronic, medical equipment, aerospace and automotive.
Walter N. Virack, vice president of sales and marketing, said a grant from the state of New Jersey to train the firm’s 160 employees is helping the company. Weiss-Aug has expanded, adding 60 workers in the past two-and-a-half years, Virack said. “What keeps us in New Jersey is our skilled labor force,” he said. “We make very complicated,
very high-tolerance components. We have a very good labor force in a very niche market — to pull up stakes to move to anymore would be detrimental to the company.”
